A long history of health

The Montpellier area is rich with research, innovation, and powerful entrepreneurial momentum, historically rooted in health and now focusing on the medicine of tomorrow, notably with its new Faculty of Medicine inaugurated in 2017.

The health sector comprises a leading university hospital, world-class teams such as Sanofi, Bio-Rad, HORIBA Medical, and Bausch+Lomb, plus innovative SMEs and VSEs (1/3 of the startups assisted by Montpellier BIC are involved with health), high-level research centers, and a highly reputed competitiveness cluster, Eurobiomed.

Strong points for the territory also include medical diagnostics, e-health, cancer research and treatment, genetics, regenerative medicine, innovative therapies, the silver economy, and research on rare diseases.

Le Pôle Biologie-Santé Rabelais

Rabelais Biology-Health Cluster

This cluster provides networking for the academic, hospital, and industry worlds to promote excellence in the biology-health sector. This association also benefits from an effective resource whose structure is unique in France: the “Biocampus Montpellier” joint service laboratory (CNRS-INSERM, University of Montpellier).

Mainly focusing on topics related to pharmaceutical drugs, diagnostics, medical equipment, and e-health, the Eurobiomed health competitiveness cluster (covering France’s Occitanie and PACA regions) coordinates events, thematic meetings, shared tools, and dedicated services. Eurobiomed is France’s leading health network and Europe’s top medical diagnostics network.

BioMedAlliance is a business association resulting from the merger of Bioméridies (Languedoc-Roussillon) and BioMedicalAlliance (Midi Pyrénées), uniting over 100 biotech and life science companies.
