How does a metropolitan area like Montpellier establish itself as a major player in global innovation? Through the global reach of its tech ecosystem, its economic appeal, and its international influence, Montpellier’s participation in VivaTech 2026 confirmed its firm place within the global dynamics of innovation. Here's a look back at three intense days during which Montpellier’s tech scene stood out, won over audiences, and strengthened its strategic partnerships.

Export markets: Montpellier’s tech sector in the spotlight

At the Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée Region pavilion, Montpellier shared the stage with major players in its ecosystem: Montpellier BIC, AD’OCC International & Conquête des marchés (Market conquest), and, above all, local companies that embody the area’s technological excellence. This collective presence helped highlight Montpellier’s ability to transform research into concrete solutions, with high-impact innovations in key sectors such as healthcare, digital technology, and CleanTech.

A strong message was delivered: Montpellier’s innovation is not just a promise, but an operational reality capable of competing with other major technology hubs around the world.

Investment: Montpellier and Occitanie, lands of opportunity

Alongside AD’OCC Invest in Occitanie, the Montpellier delegation presented the area's assets, such as its quality of life, academic and scientific excellence, and sectors of the future — all of which position Montpellier as a prime destination for investors. This is particularly true with MedVallée Montpellier, which places the metropolitan area among the most dynamic European locations in the field of global health (One Health). This ambition is already attracting numerous international players, confirming that Montpellier’s appeal is not only limited to its quality of life but that it also extends to its economic and innovative ecosystem.

Global presence: international partnerships taking shape

VivaTech 2026 also provided an opportunity to strengthen ties with Quebec and Canada, following the success of the #CapsurleQuébec (Destination Quebec) mission. Discussions continue and are yielding results, with another mission planned for Montreal and Sherbrooke from October 12 to 18, 2026, expected to lead to new collaborations.

Some of the most notable encounters included:

  • Louis Margueritte, CEO of Business France
  • Nicolas Forissier, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, in charge of Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness
  • Henri-Paul Rousseau, Quebec’s Delegate General in Paris
  • Ian Lafreniere, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Internal Security, and Minister Responsible for Relations with First Nations and Inuit

These exchanges have made one thing perfectly clear: Montpellier will no longer be a secret for global innovation leaders.

What about tomorrow?

VivaTech 2026 has confirmed that Montpellier is fulfilling its role to the fullest regarding major international innovation trends. By exporting its expertise, offering economic opportunities, and fostering international cooperation, Montpellier is proving that it has everything needed to become an essential tech hub in Europe and beyond.
